Oakens is for children born September 2015 to August 2017.

The group is led by Kit, an experienced Steiner-Waldorf tutor alongside Lauren, an experienced Forest-School Leader and Yoli a freelance artist. They work together to provide a nurturing weekly rhythm with a seasonal, nature based Class 3/4 curriculum. The group has a maximum size of 16 children.

Our day

Each week follows a balanced rhythm, weaving together focused learning, creative free play, and immersive time in nature. The children have space to play freely and imaginatively using natural resources, both indoors and out, alongside activities that nourish their senses and support their all-round development — baking, painting, woodwork, handcrafts, gardening, and woodland exploration — each with its own place in the week.

The group offers a warm, unhurried, gentle setting. Mornings begin with main lesson, giving the children a grounded start to the day, before moving into the activity the day holds — whether that’s venturing into the nearby woodland, working in the setting’s beautiful gardens, or settling into handcraft and creative work. Whatever the weather, the children are encouraged to engage deeply with the world around them and to grow at their own pace.

Communal activities include seasonal songs, verses and games, storytime, snack and lunch time. There are termly festivals for our community of families to celebrate with the group.

Setting

We have a wonderful setting in a community hall in Fishponds, close to woodland and a large park.

There is a large garden to play and explore within and a designated growing area. Indoors, the group has access to a room for main lesson, a large hall and a kitchen.
